To mark FASD Awareness Month, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists has joined the National Organisation for FASD and the FASD UK Alliance in calling for stronger recognition of the speech, language and communication needs of people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. FASD is a lifelong, under-recognised neurodevelopmental condition linked to prenatal alcohol exposure, and speech and language therapists are often among the first professionals to see delayed language before a diagnosis is considered. The statement urges decision-makers to improve recording, assessment pathways, training, and timely access to speech and language therapy based on need, not diagnosis alone.
